Breakfast &
Bedrooms
at Relais I Melograni

“Una
colazione senza cafè è come un giorno senza sole”
(Italian proverb:Breakfast without coffee
is like a day without sun).
BREAKFAST
A
typical Tuscany breakfast is included in the price and served on the
terrace during the summer months or in the breakfast room. Italian breakfast
pastries and bought fresh from the ‘pasticceria’ early in
the morning in the village. Served with real fresh Italian coffee made
using a Moka (caffettiera) brewed on a stove, the most popular home
method in Italy for a good full-bodied coffee. (Or there is a choice
of teas). Also fruit juice, fresh Tuscany bread, jams and local home
made honey. For those who prefer a savory breakfast we can offer Tuscany
breakfast bread filled with ‘prociutto ham’ and cheese or
mozzarella and tomato.

There
are maps and travel books available in the breakfast room for guests
to use. Riccardo will help you to plan your daily excursions with maps
and give advice on places to visit, places to park, scenic routes to
take and local events going on in and around the area.

LOCAL
TRATTORIA’S
There are three nice trattoria's in nearby villages
that are very popular with local Italians and serve typical traditional
dishes. All three places have a nice family atmosphere and have tables
outside for eating 'al fresco' during the summer months. See the menu
for some examples of local specialities and prices.During
the summer months guests walk down the track into the nearest village
to eat at the local trattoria.
WINE
TASTING
There
is wine and olive oil tasting on the next hill (a 10 minute walk up
a farm track) at Fattoria di Piazzano. On the farm they make a delicious
Sangiovese which comes under the name of Ventoso, (wind) because of
the strong gales we get along our valley during the winter. They also
produce a delicious CHIANTI DOCG RIO CAMERATA RISERVA, deep ruby red
in colour with a hints of plum and ripe wood fruits Also their olive
oil production contains the typical Tuscan varieties of olives: Moraiolo,
Pendolino, Frantoio and Leccino which give the oil a very fruity and
slightly peppery flavour. The farm has belonged to
the Bettarini family since 1948 and Riccardo the father and his son
and daughter Ilaria and Rolando are passionate about their wines and
will show you their products with real genuine friendliness.
EATING
ON THE TERRACE
There is a fridge in the breakfast room kitchen
where guests can leave food and drink if they would like to prepare
picnics or eat on the terrace. Empoli supermarket has a wonderful delicatessen
counter where you can buy local cheeses, hams, fresh tomatoes and fruit.
There are plates, cutlery and wine glasses in the breakfast room kitchen
that guests are welcome to use. There are no cooking pans but there is
a microwave. The terrace has tables and chairs and a spectacular view
over the countryside.
